Instead of rejecting the industrialism, the Werkbund focussed on how to use the benefits of industrialism. His enthusiasm for the Arts and Crafts movement inspired the founding of the German Werkbund, which attracted a similar utopian, idealist and socialist approach. He built several houses in the suburbs of Berlin that imitated the English Freestyle. Hermann Muthesius (1861-1927) wrote Das Englische Haus in 1904 to promote to return to the simple vernacular styles after a seven-year residency in England.
